Duties

The Facilites Service Leader performs a variety of duties to support overall facility maintenance.

In This Position, You Will

Lead a team of three or more Building Service Workers/Facilities Services Workers performing tasks involving physical labor and equipment operations as well as performing general custodial duties.
Check work in progress and when completed to ensure supervisor's instructions on work sequence, procedures, methods, and deadlines have been met.
Provide input to supervisor on performance appraisals and position descriptions and additional on the job training requirements for individual employees.
Notify supervisor or leader of apparent defects in building and exhibit systems, such as, but not limited to, leaks, cracks, breaks, unusual smells, etc. as well as apparent safety hazards.

Physical Requirements

This position requires the physical ability to perform moderately heavy work including lifting and carrying heavy objects up to 50 lbs.; work outside in all weather conditions with exposure to dirt, dust, pollen and insects; climb ladders and stairs; and stand and walk for extended periods.

Additional Requirements

Must be available to work late shifts, weekends and holidays and is subject to being called in for emergencies to restore the Smithsonian Institution to normal operations.

You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
