Electrical Design Engineer - ENG-ELE110
Purpose and Scope
Perform electrical engineering assignments to support NASA Project Requirements. The development, design, installation, operations and maintenance of existing facilities located at NASA's Johnson Space Center in Houston, TX. Design projects range from simple, routine, to complex multi-discipline.
Job Duties and Essential Responsibilities
Must have a solid foundation in basic engineering principles. Ability to perform with minimal supervision, responsible for developing the concept, basis of design and technical design solutions to maintain operability of assigned systems and components. Candidate must be generally familiar with current industry NEC standards/codes and requirements of energy efficiency and arc flash hazard analyses for the safety of personnel and protection of equipment from the unpredictable threat of arc hazard.
Perform detailed designs of electrical systems of existing facilities, power system phase and ground fault protection relays, lightning and switching protection, conduit and cable plans, substation ground grid design and analysis. Ability to perform electrical systems design - including switchgear, switchboards, motor control centers, variable frequency drives, generators, transformers, distribution panels, and other electrical distribution system. Excellent understanding of ETAP/ Arc Flash . The design includes preparing design drawings using Auto Cad software or sketches (single line diagrams, plans, wiring schematics, control schematic, panel schedules, etc.), technical specifications, power system analyses and Statements of Work.
Interface and coordinate with internal and external customers from project initiation and requirements development to design review and working group meetings in order to ensure compliance with project requirements.
Education and Experience Requirements
Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering from an ABET accredited program and a minimum of 7 years of experience.
Working knowledge of computer systems and integrated software application programs. The ability to investigate, troubleshoot, and design solutions to problems in operational facilities. Good communication and analytical skills.
Preferred Qualifications:
Preferred but not required , Possess a current and active Professional Engineers license in the State of Texas. Proficient with ETAP/ Arc Flash electrical system modeling software.
Must have the ability to communicate in English, both verbal and written in an effective manner.
Must have and maintain a valid driver's license.
