What is a Claims Adjuster?
A Claims Adjuster works closely with counsel to respond to damage claims, subpoenas, and property damage claims. A Claims Adjuster also supports collecting all damages to the Company's facilities and manages litigation files.
What does a Claims Adjuster do?
Under supervision and with the opportunity for independent action and judgment:
Investigates claims for auto, property damage and bodily injuries and manages claims and litigation case files
Retrieves data and documentation from Company records to respond to and assist with subpoenas, litigations, and requests of attorneys
Works closely with local attorneys on files assigned including attending depositions, court conferences, mediations, etc.
Provides guidance and assistance to Company personnel regarding claims matters
This position requires rotational on call responsibilities
Provides support for storm/emergency restoration efforts
What does it take to be a Claims Adjuster?
Required:
Bachelor's degree in business, legal studies, criminal justice, or a related field. In lieu of a bachelor's degree, an associate's degree in the aforementioned fields and 3+ years of experience in claims, insurance, legal defense work or a related field. In lieu of an associate's degree, a high school diploma or equivalency degree and 5+ years of related experience in claims, insurance, legal defense work or a related field.
Proficiency and experience with Microsoft Office Suite (e.g. Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and the ability to learn new computer software programs quickly
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills (written and verbal), with both internal and external stakeholders
Strong investigative and negotiation skills
Strong analytical, organizational, and strategic thinking skills with a high level of attention to detail
Must be able to work collaboratively in a team environment as well as independently with minimal supervision
Must be willing to travel and work non-traditional hours as needed
Valid driver's license
Preferred:
General knowledge of and/or experience with civil litigation
