The Administrative Assistant position on the Nursing P9 - Surgical Urology & Orthopedics unit at MD Anderson Cancer Center in Houston, Texas provides complex administrative and secretarial support to the team and has a direct impact on departmental efficiency and productivity.

Hourly breakdown of salary range:
Minimum $19.71 - Midpoint $24.52 - Maximum $29.33

The Surgical Urology & Orthopedics unit is a 32-bed unit for an adult patient population. This fast-paced environment has rapid turnover for surgical procedures. The team uses an interdisciplinary collaborative approach to patient care. Integrated in our nursing practice are tools used to maximize the skills of team members to achieve optimal outcome and improved healthcare quality.

Essential Job Functions:
Maintains calendar for supervisor and prepares expense reports. Maintains confidential patient and/or general office files. Arranges meetings according to department specifications, including booking rooms, catering and equipment. Spends majority of time on the following: Compiles reports. Composes correspondence and creates and formats presentations. Coordinates human resources activities for the department, including processing confidential paperwork, maintaining records, performance appraisals and job information. Works with financial and human resource divisions to resolve funding, job level or information issues. Interprets institutional policies for employees. Monitors and balances budget activity, requiring account review, tracking and analysis, status reports and identification of potential problems.
EDUCATION:
Required: High school diploma or equivalent.
Preferred: Bachelor's degree would be a plus.
EXPERIENCE:
Required: Four years of administrative/secretarial experience. With preferred degree, no experience required.
Preferred: Must have experience providing administrative support to one or more individuals and directly interacting with customers or patients to address needs and providing follow up
OTHER:
Required: Must pass pre-employment skills test as required and administered by Human Resources.
