Northwest Michigan Works! is seeking a full time Career Services Specialist to join our team in the Traverse City Service Center. As the Career Services Specialist you will be tasked with providing direct customer service to Northwest Michigan Works! customers and provide a wide range of career services.
The preferred candidate has the desire to continuously learn and improve, enjoys supporting and collaborating with others, relishes solving problems, and has a passion for supporting customers and our business community!
Key Responsibilities:
Welcome and assist customers with registration, service navigation, and initial needs assessments.
Provide career guidance, including resume support, job search assistance, and labor market insights.
Facilitate workshops on job readiness and refer customers to internal programs and community resources.
Support customers in using technology and navigating systems like Pure Michigan Talent Connect and Unemployment Insurance.
Perform administrative tasks, maintain a welcoming resource room, and collaborate with staff on projects.
Assist with program participation (WIOA, PATH) and ensure accurate service documentation.
Perform other duties as assigned to ensure effective service delivery.
Required Qualifications, Skills, & Abilities:
Associate's degree or equivalent experience (preferred).
Background in education, human services, or related fields.
Strong ability to develop effective partnerships and collaborative relationships.
Ability to lead, coach, and mentor customers in a positive manner.
Excellent oral and written communication skills.
High level of customer service and interpersonal skills.
Competent in Microsoft Office, Google Workspace, and other business software.
Understanding of the local labor market and public and private sector employment practices.
Preferred experience in public speaking.
Compensation and Benefits:
