Job Summary
Under the general supervision of the Maintenance Supervisor or
Maintenance Manager, does installation, maintenance, repair, and
construction work. This is a Grade 11 hourly position.
The candidate should be proficient in one or more of the following
skills and has a sound working knowledge of most of the remainder, i.e.;
electrical and gas welding; black-smithing, rigging, pipefitting,
machine tool set-up and operation, electrical installation and repair of
both power and control circuits, sheet metal layout and working, heavy
and light machinery repair, construction, maintenance and installation,
etc. May do some painting and carpentry work, and occasionally will
assist in training those with lesser skills.
Duties and Responsibilities
Is proficient in one or more of the following skills and has a sound
working knowledge of most of the remainder; electrical and gas welding,
blacksmithing, rigging, pipefitting, machine tool set-up and operation,
electrical installation and repair of both power and control circuits,
sheet metal layout and working, heavy and light machinery repair,
construction, maintenance and installation, etc.
Will be occasionally required to paint and do carpentry work.
May assist in training those with lesser skills.
Is able to locate and remedy trouble in all of the plants various
machines, equipment, and installations in the field of the skill or
skills he/she is proficient.
Usually works under minimum supervision and helps to direct the work of
others.
Is able to read from any blueprint, interprets construction and
installation instructions, and has a thorough working knowledge of shop
mathematics.
Operates all plant tools. Operates a forklift when necessary and other
mobile equipment (aerial lift, tractor, etc.) if trained and qualified.
May do routine tasks such as greasing, oiling, cleaning, and inspection
of equipment, buildings, and attachments.
Understands the importance of product safety, legality, and quality.
Complies with Good Manufacturing Practices. Maintains records as
required and is familiar with the principles of the plants HACCP
program.
Keeps working area clean, neat, and orderly and keeps tools clean and in
good repair.
