A Wind Tunnel Electrical Technician Apprentice is needed to join a team that supports wind tunnel facilities, and other facilities on center as required. Apprentices perform hands on, varied, and unique work, using a combination of both old and new equipment. The successful candidate will join the Facility Operations team to support the Center Maintenance, Operations, and Engineering Contract (CMOE) located at NASA Langley Research Center (LaRC). This position reports directly to the National Transonic Facility (NTF) operations manager.
Responsibilities
This position is for Apprentice applicants only.
The successful candidate will join a team to operate and maintain electrical systems and equipment in support of wind tunnels at NASA LaRC safely, effectively, and efficiently. Shall follow safety policies and procedures and perform all work according to existing policies and procedures while maintaining a high standard of quality and workmanship in performing the duties.
U.S. Citizenship required. High School Diploma or G.E.D. equivalent. Desire to learn more in the STEM fields outside of the typical classroom setting, with hands on training, mentoring, and instruction.

Work Environment

Test/Industrial Environment - May be exposed to areas of high noise levels, hazardous propellants, explosives, chemicals and industrial facilities. (85%)
Travel between facilities and test operations may be required and may bring exposure to loud noise and potentially hazardous equipment and chemical operations. (5%)
Physical Requirements
Must have sufficient mobility to enter into confined spaces, crawl into or onto various assemblies while maintaining a clear vision of safety is required. (50%)
Potential exposure to high noise levels, hazardous chemicals, propellants and the like. (20%)
Appropriate PPE and training will be provided for all conditions.
Must be able to walk, stand, bend, twist and sit for extended periods as well as climb, crawl, and lift up to 35 lbs. (30%)
