Position Summary:
Reports to the warden. Directly supervises director of nursing and administrative assistant. Administratively supervises physician/medical director (CHO), midlevel (PA/ANP), dentist, dental hygienist, dental assistant, psychiatrist and clinical director (psychologist). Responsible for the management of the medical, dental and mental health programs in compliance with American Correctional Association (ACA) standards, MTC Medical, and Florida Department of Corrections (FDOC) directives.
Essential Functions:
Plan, coordinate and manage the administrative and health services activities of the department.
Works with nursing supervisor in recruiting, orienting, supervising and evaluating the performance of all healthcare staff.
Provide staff training, evaluate staff performance and implement department and personnel changes as approved by the state administrator and coordinated with the manager, human resources prior to implementation.
Develop departmental budget; monitor and control expenditures; review and recommend changes to budget authorizations.
Implement new and revised policies and procedures affecting health services; coordinate with other departments to ensure compliance with overall facility objectives.
Manage and conduct coordinated health care for inmates, other health related programs and serve as a member of any required committees (QI, Safety, etc).
Manage the record keeping and reports on injuries, diseases and disabilities of inmates.
Manage in-service training in health related areas for other departments.
Coordinate with local agencies for planning and conducting environmental health inspections.
Coordinate, review and approve payment to all outside vendors, subcontracted staff and services ensuring that expenditures are within contractual and budgetary limitations.
Coordinate with other center staff concerning health services.
Ensure that health services department is in compliance with all applicable OSHA guidelines and regulations.
Promote the development of positive social skills through modeling appropriate behaviors and intervening when inappropriate behaviors are observed; provide regular feedback to staff regarding social skills procedures and intervention techniques.
Maintain accountability of staff, inmates and property; adhere to safety practices.
Facilitates, where applicable, NCCHC/ACA accreditation of the medical program by providing the required level of efficiency and approved appropriate medical services.
It is expected that the incumbent shall perform other duties as assigned within his/her capabilities as determined by management.
Education and Experience Requirements:
Nursing degree and a minimum of five (5) years professional nursing experience with one (1) year supervisory experience required. Must be a licensed registered nurse in the state of Florida. Bachelor's degree preferred. Previous corrections experience preferred. Must possess current CPR certification. Valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record required, unless waived by management.
Post Hire Requirements:
Must attain and maintain appropriate facility security clearance. Must successfully complete annual in-service training requirements.
