Chesterfield Countys Utilities Department is seeking a Utility Plant Mechanic to perform operation, inspection, and maintenance of mechanical and electrical equipment in wastewater pump station facilities. Perform general housekeeping duties. Have the ability to record and translate data from flow recorders. Have the ability to generate and complete work orders in the departments work management computer system. Mandatory on call and overtime required. Perform other work as required.This position is part of an approved Career Development Plan (CDP) and offers career progression opportunities and salary incentives, as funding permits, based on performance, qualifications, and experience.
Successful candidate will possess a
high school diploma or equivalent. Have basic electrical knowledge and knowledge of pumps, motors, and motor controllers. Three years' experience in the operation and maintenance of Wastewater Pump Stations and related equipment or equivalent combination of training and experience; lifting of heavy equipment required. Have basic computer skills with the ability to collect and enter data effectively into the departments work management system. Lifting up to 50 pounds required. Commercial Driver's License (CDL) Class "A" with Tanker endorsement required or must have ability to obtain within one year of employment.Current valid drivers license and good driving record required. Based on the Virginia DMV point system, record must not reflect a total of six or more demerit points within the twenty-four months preceding the anticipated hire date, or one major violation of six demerit points within the preceding thirty-six months. Out of state driving records must be obtained by applicant and presented at time of interview. Records must reflect at least three years of history and be dated within thirty days of interview date. This position is a federally regulated DOT position and is subject to random drug testing and alcohol testing. The use of medical marijuana for this position is prohibited.Pre-employment drug testing, FBI criminal background check and education/degree verification required.
