Job Title: Principal Electrical Technician
Job Description
The Electrical Technician is responsible for performing technical work in the maintenance, repair, calibration, and installation of various electronic equipment. The role involves distributing and maintaining laboratory test equipment for engineers, ensuring efficient operation of the laboratory environment, and arranging for the repair and calibration of major equipment. Under general supervision, you will perform skilled duties in soldering PCB components, testing, troubleshooting, repairing, and calibrating equipment in the Electronics Laboratory.
Responsibilities
Troubleshoot and repair electronic device board circuitry, including failure investigation to component level.
Hands-on experience in SMT parts soldering, such as replacing microprocessors.
Provide manufacturing test support, troubleshooting, fault isolation, and corrective actions.
Create test reports for functional and performance testing of electronics products.
Conduct engineering and development tests, along with detailed experimental testing to collect design data.
Support product testing during integration, functional, design verification, performance, and qualification testing phases.
Install components, units, and printed circuit boards following specifications.
Fabricate parts, cables, and test fixtures while maintaining all work-related equipment.
Write and maintain work procedures and all related documentation for each task performed.
Customize units and make adjustments or repairs according to written specifications.
Order and maintain inventory of replacement parts for electronic test equipment and maintain warranty, service, and repair records.
Work with vendors to obtain pricing and availability of needed parts and perform quality checks on newly delivered equipment.
Create ADCNs for minor electronics assembly rework instructions per IPC standards.
Create engineering test and status reports.
Interface with customers and suppliers as needed to support troubleshooting the electronics assembly.
Essential Skills
IPC Certification
PCB rework and test box setup
Experience with high voltage power electronics from 5 kW up to 45 KVA
Additional Skills & Qualifications
Understanding of IPC standards
Hands-on experience with electronics equipment such as programmable power supplies, high-speed digital oscilloscopes, and logic analyzers
Understanding and testing knowledge of serial communication hardware
Strong work ethic and commitment to excellence
Ability to communicate effectively and work in a team environment
Work Environment
The work environment includes a laboratory setting equipped with a variety of electronic testing equipment, programmable power supplies, and high-speed digital oscilloscopes. The role may involve working with high voltage power electronics and requires adherence to safety protocols. Collaboration with team members and interaction with vendors and suppliers is a key aspect of the job.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $35.00 - $40.00/hr.
