Overview
Summary
The Director of Sponsored Programs is responsible for the development, management, and oversight of the pursuit and implementation of sponsored programs in support of the initiatives of the Baptist University College of Osteopathic Medicine (BUCOM) related to the research strategic plan. The Director establishes and oversees processes to ensure compliance with funder, federal, and accepted industry standards, provides support to administration, faculty, and provides resources and training to support a culture of effective sponsored research program management, manages activities related to grants and contracts funding research, and acts as a liaison with research sponsors on behalf of BUCOM. This position will report directly to the Associate Dean of Research, responsible for 8 hours/day, 5 days/week. Incumbents may occasionally be subject to hours beyond the normal workday.
Responsibilities
Works with the Baptist Health Sciences University (BHSU), Office of Finance, and Baptist Memorial Health Care Corporation (BMHCC) to develop and refine procedures and/or polices to support proposal submission, compliance, budgeting, and other relevant processes with adherence to applicable BHSU, state, and federal guidelines.
Provides effective direction and mentorship to research development, contracts, and grants personnel in support of BUCOM faculty, administration, BHSU, and BMHCC.
Ensures institutional compliance with federal and other sponsor regulations governing research grant and contract administration.
Assists BUCOM principal investigators in successful proposal portfolio preparation.
Champions research development, proposal and budget development, review, and approval.
Supports negotiations of research contracts and grants with funding agencies. Thorough understanding of primary granting agency programs/processes and award terms and conditions pertinent to grant-funded research.
Promotes constant review and improvement of the administrative procedures governing sponsored research.
Serves as liaison with a variety of agencies and professional groups to keep abreast of current developments and to ensure compliance with relevant laws and regulations
Performs related accountabilities/responsibilities as required or directed.
Requirements, Preferences and Experience
Minimum:
Bachelor's degree
At least five (5) years of experience in higher education, financial reporting, research compliance, research administration or equivalent
Desired:
Master's degree in research administration or research compliance preferred.
Seven (7) years of research administration experience or equivalent.
Experience in IRB policies and procedures or IRB coordination/administration
Broad experience in research administration/procedures (and strong interpersonal and communication skills.)
